I’m a graduate in the Master’s of Science in Journalism program at the West Virginia University Reed College of Media. I started this blog for WVU’s interactive journalism class in the fall of 2013. I also have BSJ in advertising, and before returning to WVU for graduate school, I worked as a legal news reporter. I am currently working for Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College as a member of the ADA Compliance Staff working to improve online courses. I am a West Virginia native from the Charleston area, and I can no longer claim to be in my early 20’s. It happens.
In my thesis research, I used traditional advertising research methods to explore the business model of crowdfunding. I am fascinated by new online business models. I love that people are finding new ways to put their creative ideas into action, especially when it comes to niche and local markets. The link between producer and consumer is becoming more direct, which allows projects to be carried out in the most exciting, personal and uncompromising ways possible. In this blog, and I will examine the ways brands use social media to connect with audiences and developing methods for business ventures made possible by new media.
